Things to do at the Blue Cave

The Blue Cave is a sea cave on the Luštica peninsula, reached by boat from Herceg Novi or Tivat rather than from Kotor itself. Around midday, in calm weather, sunlight bouncing off the white seabed turns the water an electric blue, the same effect that made Capri's Blue Grotto famous, though far fewer people know this one exists.

Boat trips cost roughly 20-25 EUR per person and are usually sold as a combined excursion with the fortified islet of Mamula, adding an hour or so to the outing. Overcast skies or a choppy sea mute the colour considerably, so this is a fair-weather trip, not a guaranteed one.

Swimming inside is normally allowed outside the busiest midday slot; bring a swimsuit rather than expecting to just look.
