Things to do in Stari Bar

Stari Bar is a ruined fortified town about 4 km inland from modern, coastal Bar, abandoned after an earthquake wrecked it in 1979.

Unlike Kotor's old town, nobody lives inside these walls: it is a genuine ghost town of collapsed houses, a former cathedral and an Ottoman-era aqueduct still striding across the approach on stone arches.

Reckon on 1 to 2 hours on foot picking through the ruins, on uneven ground with little shade, so bring water and proper shoes. From Kotor it is roughly 1 hour to Bar by the coast road, plus a short hop up to the ruins themselves. There is no cafe or shop inside the walls, only at the entrance.
