Things to do in Porto Montenegro

Porto Montenegro sits 20 minutes from Kotor by car, on the edge of Tivat, and it looks nothing like the rest of the bay. The marina holds berths for superyachts up to 150 metres, lined with boutiques from Prada to Hublot and a row of restaurants priced for the boats moored outside them.

The Naval Heritage Collection includes the Heroj, a decommissioned Yugoslav submarine from 1968 that visitors can walk through, entry around 8 EUR. There is a members-style infinity pool open to day visitors for a fee, plus a small artificial beach with sunbeds, both charging in the 15 to 25 EUR range depending on season. Expect glass, marble and yacht traffic rather than stone lanes and washing lines strung between old houses.

It reads as a resort development bolted onto a working bay, useful for an afternoon, not a substitute for Kotor's old town or Perast's waterfront.
