Things to do in Ulcinj
Ulcinj sits 2 hours south of Kotor, and it feels like a different country: Montenegro's southernmost town is majority Albanian and Muslim, with an Ottoman-era casbah of narrow lanes and old minarets on a rocky promontory rather than the Venetian squares you get further north.
It works as a base for Velika Plaza, an 12 km sand beach, and for Ada Bojana, the river-island kitesurfing spot at its far end, both reached by separate short drives rather than on foot. It also sits close to the Albanian border, with Shkoder about 1 hour further on.
The old town itself takes an hour or two to walk; come outside the July-August heat if you can, since there is little shade on the ramparts.
