Things to do in Podgorica

Most visitors only see Podgorica through a rental-car windscreen on the way from Golubovci airport (TGD), roughly 1h from Kotor. That is a fair way to treat it: Montenegro's administrative capital has little of the coast's charm, and its centre was largely rebuilt after 1944 bombing raids and later Yugoslav-era construction.

The two landmarks worth a stop are the Millennium Bridge, a 2005 steel cable structure crossing the Morača, and the confluence where the Ribnica meets the Morača below the old Ottoman quarter of Stara Varoš. Both can be seen on foot in under an hour.

Podgorica works better as a transport hub than a destination: budget flights land here rather than Tivat, and buses to Skadar Lake, Ostrog Monastery or Durmitor (each 1-2h further) often start from its terminal.
