Things to do in Trebinje
Trebinje sits just across the Bosnian border from Herceg Novi, about an hour's drive from Kotor and considerably shorter than the trip to Mostar. The centre is built around Arslanagić Bridge, an Ottoman stone bridge moved stone by stone in the 1960s when the Trebišnjica river was dammed, and a main square shaded by plane trees planted more than a century ago.
On the hill above town, the white walls of Hercegovačka Gračanica, a Serbian Orthodox monastery completed in 2000 as a memorial to the poet Jovan Dučić, look down over the rooftops and are reached by a short drive or a steep walk. Border formalities add time that a straight-line distance does not show, so budget extra at the Bosnia crossing in July and August.
Trebinje uses the Bosnian mark, not the euro, though euros are widely accepted in cafes and shops.
