Things to do in Virpazar

Virpazar sits on the Podgorica–Bar railway, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes from Kotor by road, and functions as the main gateway to Lake Skadar rather than a destination in its own right. The village centres on a small square by the water, a modest train station and a Saturday-morning market where smoked eel, the local speciality, is sold alongside rakija and honey.

Boat trips to the pelican colonies around Manastir Beška and the reedbeds further south leave from the jetty here, typically lasting 2 to 3 hours and costing from around 15 to 25 EUR per person depending on group size and season.

There is little to detain visitors in the village itself beyond a meal and a coffee before or after the water; treat Virpazar as the transfer point and the lake as the actual attraction.
