Things to do in the Tara River Canyon
The Tara carved a canyon roughly 1,300 m deep in places, second only to the Grand Canyon, and the river itself is rated among the cleanest in Europe. Rafting runs from May to September on Class II-III rapids, manageable for beginners in a guided raft with a certified skipper steering from the back.
A standard half-day trip covers about 18 km from Splavista to Radovan Luka in two to three hours on the water, typically 45-60 EUR per person including transfer, wetsuit and a riverside lunch. Full-day and two-day descents exist for longer stretches, weather and water level permitting.
5 hours by road via Niksic or the Durmitor side, so this is a trip built around an overnight stay near Zabljak rather than a day return.
