Things to do in Njeguši
Njeguši is a scattered hamlet on the old road up to Lovćen, about 45 minutes from Kotor once you have climbed the 25 hairpins from Kotor Bay. It is the birthplace of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš and, more practically, the place to stop for lunch on the way to Lovćen or Cetinje.
Small family farms along the road sell njeguški pršut, a smoke-cured ham aged for months in the cold mountain air, alongside njeguški sir, a firm sheep's cheese. Expect to pay roughly 15 to 20 EUR for a mixed plate with bread and olives at a konoba, cash preferred.
There is little to see beyond a handful of stone houses and Njegoš's birth house, so budget 45 minutes to an hour here, not a half-day.
