Things to do in Durmitor National Park

Durmitor National Park is roughly 3 hours from Kotor by car via Niksic, so it works better as an overnight trip than a day out. The park protects 48 peaks over 2,000 m and 18 glacial lakes, a scale that Skadar or the Bay simply don't have.

Mountain roads into the park can close in winter with snow, so June to September is the reliable window; outside those months, check conditions before you drive up. This page covers the park as a whole rather than duplicating the separate write-ups on Zabljak, the Black Lake or the Tara Canyon, which each get their own detail elsewhere on this site.

Expect a full day minimum even without hiking, and pack for weather that shifts fast at altitude regardless of what Kotor looks like at sea level.
