Things to do in Kotor
Kotor's old town sits inside 16th-century Venetian walls, wedged between limestone cliffs and the Bay of Kotor. 30am or after 5pm and the same streets are near empty. Three gates get you in: the Sea Gate on the harbour side, the River Gate near the bus station, and the Gurdić Gate to the south, close to a small morning market that sells produce and cheese daily outside the main entrance.
Staying inside the walls means five-minute walks to everything but higher prices and church bells from dawn; guesthouses outside the walls, in Škaljari or along the bay, cost less and add a 10-15 minute walk. St Tryphon's Cathedral, rebuilt after earthquakes in 1667 and 1979, still shows two towers of visibly different heights. Tivat Airport is a 20-minute drive; the bus station sits just outside the River Gate.
